A month ago I went across one interesting application - iTokk Wireless. The guys have a web-based system where people can make calls using VoIP and their cellphones, but that’s not something that interested me, I was wondering more about how their application for BlackBerry works.
It’s a pretty interesting concept. You download the application, register online, and make calls from your contact list on your BlackBerry. The main factor that defines whether this application will be useful for you or not is your plan. It’s better to use the app if you have unlimited incoming calls (as that’s what iTokk Wireless does - it triggers an incomming call to your phone) and a data plan.
Initially your balance will be $0.25 that is enough to talk for 5 minutes within US and Canada, but later on you can top up your account if you like the app. I’ve been using it for a month, and spent $10 so far talking for around 200 mins for that much money.
To download the app checkout their website: www.itokk.mobi.
So, let’s make a call:
- Download the iTokk Wireless BlackBerry application.
- Register at www.itokk.mobi
- Run the application on your BlackBerry and use the email and password you registered with to login. *
- Close the application.
- Now go to your contacts.
- Highlight a person and click [BlackBerry Menu Button] > [Call Using ITOKK.MOBI]

You are done, the system will now initiate a connection and you will receive an incoming call in couple seconds. Pick up and wait for 3-5 seconds and you will be connected to the person you called.
*NOTE: I found that every time you reboot your BlackBerry, you need to login again.
